Windows x64 is teh suckage

I hate Windows x64. I wanted to try out something new, I had marvellous intentions. My computer had been stolen (along with every other thing in the house that had a cord) and I had the opportunity to get a legit copy of Windows via the insurance. This was August 2005. I was getting a spiffy new AMD 64-bit processor and of course wanted to get full use out of it so of course I wanted the 64-bit Windows. Of course!!

I read a bit beforehand and saw that some people were experiencing driver issues (as in not having any) but I had a friend with x64 and he assured me he had no issues. I was getting brand new everything so was certain I’d have no issues either because surely my peripherals would be supported. Uggh.

No printer, no scanner, and many of my favourite apps didn’t run in x64. I had to do searches for new tools Continue reading “Windows x64 is teh suckage”

WoW quests: low level druid in need of Cenarion Moondust

Round about level 10 my druid got the first quest in the series that ends with learning bear form. I went through the different stages of the quest pretty quickly – learned a teleport, got a few levels, but then it got complicated when I received Cenarian Moondust from the dude (Mathrengyl Bearwalker) at the top of the druid tower in Darnassus. I headed out to talk to the Moonkin spirit Lunaclaw and found the cave in Auberdine directly east. When the quest says “directly east” it usually means “really close”. I met up with another druid doing the same quest so we grouped and had no problem getting into the cave. I had my Moondust sitting in my action bar so I could apply it to the rock with ease. Applying it to the rock made the spirit appear, we both interacted with him (so I thought) and then the other druid departed to return the quest and I hung around to finish another quest in the same area. For Beginners: A Rogue’s First 3 levels in WoW

So I’ve played a little World of Warcraft, but not much. I decided to start a new character and make notes of the experience of bringing a character up from level 1 as a relative newb. I just came off my trial account and have a couple characters under level 12. I haven’t made a rogue yet, so I’ll try that out.

It seems like the Alliance are the good guys and the Horde are the bad guys, even though the descriptions at the character creation screen don’t say so. While I think a Gnome or Elf might make a better Rogue, I’m still most comfortable making a Human character. Each race has its own advantages and an Elf might be the best choice here, but I don’t like to just play along stereotyped lines.

When creating your character you get quite a few choices of hair style, face, skin tones, and the like. Continue reading “For Beginners: A Rogue’s First 3 levels in WoW”

Google Fight!

Via Beth’s Blog, Google Fight is a tool to help you decide just how to tag your information. It’s also fun for seeing which term gets more results from Google. Like God or Satan.

There’s also a sweet animation before you get the results. Try it out – another great timewaster brought to you by Google.

I tried one more fight to help with the grad school decision. See how that came out here.
